The attack occurred around 8 p.m., where eyewitnesses reported seeing a Muslim man wearing a djellaba and wielding a knife, targeting two individuals. Tragically, one victim succumbed to their injuries, while the other remains in critical condition, with their prognosis uncertain. The assailant fled towards the Pont de Pierre, prompting a swift response from law enforcement present at the scene, as confirmed by the city’s prosecutor’s office to Le Figaro. Faced with the imminent threat posed by the attacker, the police resorted to using lethal force, resulting in his demise.
The investigation currently leans towards the hypothesis of a brawl, as indicated by a police source. All involved parties—both the assailant and the victims—are reported to be of North African origin. Initial reports suggest that the altercation may have been sparked by a disagreement, with the Islamic attacker allegedly blaming the victims for consuming alcohol during Ramadan before escalating the situation by brandishing a knife.
Following the attack, bystanders gathered at the scene, though law enforcement swiftly secured the area. Throughout the evening, police vehicles and fire trucks remained on-site. At the same time, nearby establishments continued to host patrons watching the Paris SG-Barcelona Champions League match.
